Year 5/6

Welcome to Upper School

Hello, we are Mrs Reid, Mrs Hall and Mrs Taylor with support from Mrs Saunderson. We are a new team with a focus on continuing to raise standards; we enjoy working in a small school which has a specialist focus on the junior ages. We want to ensure that our current group have the best preparation for the SATs as well as helping to prepare the children for secondary school.

As a team we are also responsible for the annual leavers’ production. Every year we are left amazed and in awe of our children’s incredible talents and feel privileged to be able to provide a platform for them to showcase their talents.

Homework in Year 5 and 6

  • This year KS2 homework will consist of topic, SPAG or Maths and Spelling each week.
  • We encourage children to log on to the rock stars Times Table regularly using their log on
  • Spelling tests will be every Thursday. Each week your child should learn their spellings in preparation for the test and write sentences for at least five of the spelling words for that week in their homework book.
  • Children are encouraged to complete an extra homework task from the topic grid, these are to be in on a Monday
  • Children will have an additional sheet to complete each week based on a core subject.
  • Every week we will look at the Reading Diary by adults in the class, but the diary needs to be in school everyday. A record of what the children have read needs to be added to the diary daily along with comments using the ideas from the book

Children have the opportunity to complete homework in homework club. If homework is not handed in, children will be expected to do it during break time. Should you have any concerns about homework  please speak to your child’s teacher.

After Christmas additional homework task will be set for year 6:
  • 1 x SPAG SATs buster test
  • 1 x Reading SATs buster test
  • 1 x Math SATs buster test

PE Timetable

Please ensure that your child has the correct school PE kit. Children must be able to remove earrings and tie up their hair if necessary.  The children need to be prepared everyday for PE .
