Year 5/6

Welcome to Upper School
Hello! We are Mrs Reid, Mrs Taylor, Miss Parkinson and Mrs Conway as we are the upper school team! We enjoy working in a small school which has a specialist focus on the junior ages. We are a new team with a focus on continuing to raise standards and the independence of students. This will help to ensure that our current cohort have the best preparation for the SATs as well as helping prepare the children for secondary school.
Homework in Year 5 and 6
This year KS2 homework will consist of Maths, grammar or reading as well as level appropriate spellings each week.
Homework and spellings will be handed out on Friday every week and due back on Thursday which is also when the weekly spelling test will take place.
In preparation for the spelling test we suggest that your child RESCUEs each word – Read the word, Explore it, Spell it, Check it, Understand it, Explain it (this can be found on the bottom of your child’s weekly spelling list).
We also encourage children to log on to Times Table Rockstars regularly using their login at: https://play.ttrockstars.com/auth/school/student/1719
If homework is not handed in your child will have the opportunity to hand it in first thing Friday morning as we do understand sometimes human error means we forget to bring it in despite having completed it! If it is not given in on the last chance of Friday morning children will be expected to do it during lunch time on Friday. If you have any concerns regarding homework please speak to your child’s teacher.
After Christmas additional homework tasks will be set for year 6:
1 x SPAG SATs buster test
1 x Reading SATs buster test
1 x Math SATs buster test
PE
PE takes place twice a week, we learn one activity for approximately 6 consecutive lessons then rotate onto a different activity. Please see below for when your child will be having PE each week. We are currently asking all children to come to school in their PE kit on these days. Any change to the below timetable will be instructed to your children by their class teacher.
Week A Brunel –Wednesday and Thursday. Darwin – Wednesday and Thursday. Galileo – Wednesday and Thursday. |
Week B Brunel – Tuesday and Thursday. Darwin – Monday and Thursday. Galileo – Tuesday and Thursday. |
Please ensure that children can take their jewellery out and they will need to tie their hair back in line with school policy.
